Tranquility Place Tournament Results
The Dufferin Lawn Bowling Club held a Ladies and Mixed Pairs Tournament Monday, August 23 sponsored by Tranquility Place Retirement Home & Apartments. A total of nineteen teams were entered.
In first place, from the St. George LBC, were Laura Ritchie and Tilly Mannen with 3 wins (43+1). From the Woodstock LBC, Gary Moore and Deanna Palmer finished in second with 3 wins (42+7). From the Ingersoll LBC, Silver Papis and Carol Bragg placed third with 3 wins (38). Marie Sutton and Eleanor Thomson, from Dufferin, finished in fourth with 2 wins (42+5) and Frank and Maureen Francella, from Hagersville, were fifth with 2 wins (38). One game highs went to Jack Surerus and Norma Hussey from Norwich (34+4).
Thanks to Joan Gehring and Helen Knill in the kitchen, Bob Valade and Al Osborne for setting the greens and Betty Dawes and Wilma Roblin for the draw table.
Heart & Stroke Jitney Results
On Sunday, August 22, the Dufferin Lawn Bowlers bowled a jitney with a generous donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Two game winners were Alma Kisser (24), Wilma Roblin (24), Bill Taylor (23), Jack Taylor (21), Jim Thomson (20) and Art Lowe (16). Thanks to Marie Sutton and Wilma Roblin for making the draw and Lisa Marie Hooper and Joe Godwin for refreshments.
District 3 Playdown Results
A team of Novice Ladies from the Dufferin Lawn Bowling Club placed second in the District 3 playdowns bowled in Woodstock on Saturday, August 21.
Richardson Trophy Tournament Results
A total of 18 bowlers participated in the Richardson Trophy Women's and Mixed Triples Tournament at the Dufferin Lawn Bowling Club on Sunday, August 15. Joe Godwin, Velma Locke and Lisa Marie Hooper finished in first place with 3 wins (32+4). Marie Sutton, Wilma Roblin and Joan Kay came in second with 2 wins (24) and Joan Deutscher, Bob Dolmer and Liz Vegso rounded out the top three with 2 wins (22).
Galarie Lumiere & Eagle Place Tournament Results
Eight teams participated in the Galerie Lumiere & Eagle Place Senior Ladies and Mixed Triples Tournament with a Novice Lead on Tuesday, August 10. The day was scorching hot with 24 stalwart lawn bowlers from Burlington, Simcoe, St. George, Norwich and Dufferin Lawn Bowling Clubs taking to the greens.
Art Low (skip), Bunty Lowe (vice) and Sam Macaluso (lead) from Dufferin bowled into first place with 3 wins (34+2). Bruce Smith (skip), Linda Smith (vice) and Tom Gwuinnett (lead) from Burlington finished in second place with 2 wins (34+3). Yvette Vanderpost (skip), Joyce Donaldson (vice) and Matt Kolnec (lead) from Simcoe in third with 2 wins (29).
One game highs (31+3) went to Olive Martin (skip), Bill Taylor (vice) and Lisa Marie Hooper (lead) from Dufferin. Congratulations to the trio for bowling a perfect end, third game 10th end.

Tradewind Heating & AC Pairs Tournament Results
Tradewind Heating & Air Conditioning sponsored a Ladies and Mixed Pairs tournament on Tuesday August 3. Twelve teams arrived to play three ten end games in the oppressive heat.
In first place with 3 wins (40+2) were Jack Taylor and Eleanor Thomson from the Dufferin Lawn Bowling Club. Yvette Vanderpost and Matt Kolenc from Simcoe came in second with 3 wins (33) and Art Lowe and Marie Sutton from Dufferin finished in third with 2 wins (36). One game highs went to Tony Van Den Hurk and Elaine Clayton from Simcoe (33+9).

B.Y.O Breweries Open Pairs Tournament Results
The greens of the Dufferin Lawn Bowling Club hosted an Open Pairs tournament sponsored by B.Y.O. Breweries on Tuesday, July 20. Ron Gregory and Al Fuller, Ingersoll finished in top spot with 3 wins (45+1). Tony Vandenhurk and Joyce Donaldson, Simcoe finished in second with 2 wins (41) and Tilly Mannen and Laura Ritchie, St. George in third with 2 wins (40+3). One game high winners were Joan Way and Carol Risidore, Burlington (36).
Dufferin Club Singles Tournament Results
Twenty members of the Dufferin Lawn Bowling Club bowled in the Club Singles Championships on Thursday, July 15. The ladies and men's senior champions were Marie Sutton and Bill Ellis while the novice champions were Phyllis Gould and Bob Dolmer, respectively.
Thanks to Velma Locke for refreshments on a very hot humid evening and to Wilma Roblin and Eleanor Thomson who ran the draw. Special thanks to all the "jack setters" for a job well done.
Dufferin Centennial Open Pairs Tournament Results
On Friday, July 9 the Dufferin Lawn Bowling Club and challenged the weatherman and bowled their Centennial Open Pairs Tournament. The pair of Larry McClellan and Jurgen Fessler from St. Marys finished first with 3 wins (47+2). Frank and Maureen Francella, Hagersville finished in second with 3 wins (44), Frank Pring and Laura Ritchie, Caledonia in third with 2 wins (45+6), Tony Vandenhurk and Mary Faludi, Simcoe in fourth with 2 wins (43+5) and Dorothy Forbes and Deanna Palmer, Thamesford in fifth with 2 wins (42+1). One game high winners were Joyce Donaldson and Christine Booth, Simcoe (32).
The lucky winners of the raffle draw were Ron Gregory, Ingersoll (two tickets to the Sanderson Centre), Wilma Roblin, Dufferin Club (one night accomodation at Best Western), Carol Broughton, Hagersville (sports bag), Joan Way, Burlington (golf shirt) and Christine Booth, Simcoe (gift basket).
Williams Coffee Pub Tournament Results
Williams Coffee Pub sponsored a women's/mixed pairs tournament at the greens of the Dufferin Lawn Bowling Club on July1. There was a sea of red and white in celebration of Canada Day. Charlie Lyle and Margaret Beacroft, Burlington finished in top spot with 3 wins (46+5). Gary Moore and Shirley Hague, Woodstock finished in second with 3 wins (40); Joyce Donaldson and Christine Booth, Simcoe in third with 3 wins (38); Jim Smith and Deanna Palmer, Woodstock in fourth with 2 wins (45+5); Moe Cosyn and Irene Thompson, Woodstock in fifth with 2 wins (39+1) and Tilly Mannen and Marie Cruickshank, St. George in sixth with 1 game (high 37).
Canada Day Jitney Results
The Dufferin Lawn Bowling Club members continued their centennial celebrations with a Canada Day jitney bowled on Sunday, June 27. Two game winners were Joan Deutscher (22), Bob Dolmer (22) and Joan Kay (20).

Centennial Dinner & Dance Cancelled
Due to poor ticket sales the Centennial Dinner and Dance scheduled for Saturday, June 26 has been cancelled. Thanks to the organizing committee for all their hard work trying to organize the event and also for organizing the Centennial Open House on June 5, which was a great success!
Sunday Jitney & BBQ Results
The winner of the jitney bowled Sunday, June 13 was Betty Gragg with 2 wins (27). Nellie Flaherty finished in second with 2 wins (22) and Bunty Lowe in third with 2 wins (18).
McCleister Funeral Home Ladies Pairs Results
Dufferin Lawn Bowling Club hosted a women's pairs tournament sponsored by McCleister Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 8. The winning pair was Shirley Hague and Deanna Palmer of Woodstock with 3 wins (44+5). Muriel LaPlante and Mary Faludi, Simcoe finished in second (2 wins, 41+3); Beverly Hitchman and Shirley Filsinger, Kitchener in third (2 wins, 40+3) and Olive Martin and Loretta Beaton, Brantford finished in fourth (1 game high 36).
Tickets on Sale for Centennial Dinner & Dance
Tickets are on sale for the Centennial Dinner and Dance on Saturday, June 26. The event will be held at the Branch 90 Legion Hall on Oak Street. Cocktails will be served at 6 pm with a hot buffet dinner to follow at 7 pm. "Two of a Kind" will be playing live music from 9 pm to 1 am. Cash bar. Tickets are $30 per person and can be purchased in advance from the Marie Sutton or the tennis court staff.
Centennial Celebrations in June
The Dufferin Club celebrates its centennial anniversary this year. Celebrations include an Open House on Saturday, June 5 from 9:30 am to 4 pm with free food, entertainment and activities for all ages. Raindate is Sunday, June 6 starting at 10 am. Here is a run down of the Open House celebrations:

- 10:00 am Town Crier
- 11:30 am (to 1:00 pm) Free Instruction: Learn to Play Tennis & Lawn Bowling
- 12:00 pm (to 2:00 pm) Free Lunch: BBQ with hot dogs, chips and drinks
- 2:00 pm Centennial Cake Cutting/Serving
- 3:00 pm Closing Ceremonies
Play tennis and lawn bowling free all day. Live music played by "The Unitards". Bring your friends and join in on the fun. Get in the spirit and come dressed in period costume.

Brant Chiropractic & Laser Clinic sponsored a women's and mixed pairs tournament at Dufferin Lawn Bowling Club, Tuesday June 1. Charles Lyle & Marg Beacroft, Burlington finished in top spot with 3 wins (44). Frank Pring & Carol Broughton, Caledonia finished in second with 3 wins (40), Kody Olthof & Alice Petherman, Simcoe in third with 2 wins (40 + 2) and Frank & Maureen Francella, Hagersville finished in fourth with 2 wins (40). Muriel LaPlante & Joyce Donaldson, Simcoe round out the top with with a 1 game high.
Jitney Results - Sunday, May 30
The Dufferin Lawn Bowling Club opened the Sunday jitney season on the greens with the followng winners: 1) Alma Kisser with 2 wins 21, 2) Bob Dolmer with 2 wins 19 and 3) Jack Taylor 2 wins 19.
Open House - Saturday, May 1
The 2010 centennial season kicks off with a joint Lawn Bowling and Tennis Open House on Saturday, May 1 from 10 am to 12 pm. Information regarding memberships and club activities will be provided and membership registrations will be accepted. Light refreshments will also available.
Dessert Bridge and Euchre
The Dufferin Lawn Bowling Club is sponsoring a Dessert Bridge and Euchre Event at the Sydenham Church (120 Sydenham Street) on Wednesday, April 21 at 12:30 pm. Tickets are $8 per person and includes prizes. For tickets or information contact Marie Sutton (751-0802), Wilma Roblin (753-0706) or Olive Martin (752-8326).
Our Town: Brantford
Our Town. the WNED-TV series, came to Brantford in October to produce a scrapbook of the city. One of the segments will be a feature of the Dufferin Tennis and Lawn Bowling Club. Our Town: Brantford premiered Saturday, December 12. The complete story is posted in the Brantford Expositor. WNED has scheduled an encore presentation Sunday, April 4 at 5 pm and again on April 9 at 3 am.
